From the age of 8 I have been suffering with Musculoskeletal problems with my first surgery taking place on my 14th birthday. When I reached 21 I was told it would not be long before I was wheelchair bound. Not wanting to be defeated I sought out ways to improve my situation. Several surgeries and 2 decades later, with my pain no longer under control I needed a new plan. Everything I read told me to get fit, develop my core strength to reduce or at least get my pain under control. I was very worried about going to a class where I would be asked to do something that could cause me damage so not only was it key to finding someone with the suitable qualifications but also experience. Lynn offered me that. We started off with a few private classes and now I go as often as I can. My pain is under control and I no longer take Morphine, Fentanyl or codeine to get through the day. I no longer have a blue badge, am not in a wheel chair and can enjoy long walks with friends and their dogs. The best part of it is the classes are fun and challenging.

I have attended Lynn’s Pilates classes for a couple of years after this form of exercise was suggested to me by a doctor after an illness that affected my breathing. I was initially hesitate to attend as I was linking Pilates to Yoga and was unsure if Pilates was for me. After my first sessions with Lynn I was sure her classes would benefit me. They are relaxed, focused sessions that are differentiated to the needs of the individual. Lynn’s knowledge of Pilates is evident as she adjusts movements to support and build upon your physical abilities and strengths. Lynn explains the purpose of each exercise and each class is varied with exercises to target different areas or your body. With encouragement, support, experience and humour Lynn is able to get the best out of you even when you turn up to class wishing you could fall asleep on the mat instead of having to complete ‘The Hundred’! Since attending Lynn’s classes on a regular basis I am convinced my balance, breathing, posture and core strength have improved. As my needs and ability changes I know Lynn will use her expertise and experience to adapt the exercises for me so I can continue classes with her.

Lynn is a very good teacher who explains what she wants the class to do for each exercise and gives us several different options for the exercises depending on individual’s capabilities and health issues. I am a bit paranoid about hurting my lower back, having had problems in the past, and she is able to suggest alternatives that I feel comfortable with. Lynn motivates me to go to her classes which I enjoy.

I have been attending Lynn’s Pilates classes for about a year for one or two sessions a week and I have noticed a number of definite improvements in my body condition over that time. My core strength is much stronger which helps with my horse riding and I can sit upright for longer periods without slouching. My stomach is flatter and my back muscles are stronger (and slimmer!), I fact my whole rib cage, back, upper arms and waist area feel toned. After a class I generally feel taller and stretched. I have also been careful with the amount and what I eat and drink over the last year due to a reflux problem and with Pilates the combination has meant that I have also lost a stone in weight over the last year, which I am very pleased with.

I have been coming along to Lynn's Pilates class for a few months now and can already feel the benefits. As someone who's tall and has a desk job, I was getting lower back ache and with a family history of hip problems I can honestly say I feel the aches and pains are now minimal and I feel I can do so much more without the constant back ache. “I have been going to Lynn’s Plates classes now for just over a year, at first I was pessimistic but to stop my wife nagging me I agreed to attend a few private classes. Because of work I spend a lot of time driving and sitting at a desk, as such I was suffering from back ache and knee problems. Lynn’s classes have put a stop to all of that. A few years ago I also had surgery for carpel tunnel on my right hand with surgery planned for my left hand shortly afterwards. The simple stretching exercises we have been doing has even improved these symptoms. I now go on a regular basis, the class is a great size with a mixture of men and women and we whilst we work hard we always manage to have a laugh. Seriously give it try....”

Since my mid-forties I've suffered pain and mobility problems in my hips, facing, as I thought eventual hip replacement. However, at the age of 68, following x-rays showing "wear and tear" and lower back problem, my doctor suggested I try Pilates.

I have seeing Lynn at Effective Pilates for some time now on a regular basis ad her knowledge of Pilates and its ability to address physical problems which occur throughout life, were obvious from my first visit.

The exercises which she has introduced me to are strengthening my core muscles thus improving my posture, mobility, and overall strength to a level I would never have thought possible. They are resulting in me having virtually no pain in my hips - or indeed, any of the other niggly areas associated with "ageing", i.e. neck/shoulder/back/knees and even my balance has improved!!

Lynn's knowledge and experience is coupled with her personal encouragement and praise for my progress, and all these factors have made a huge improvement, not only physically, but to my self -esteem and feeling of well-being.

I have been attending Lynn's pilates classes for approximately 18 months now and they have made a massive difference to my bank pain (pretty much non-existent now) and core strength. I used to get back problems every autumn when my horse started spending more time in the stable and thus more mucking out to do. Generally I would need to see my osteopath several times a year. Since starting the pilates classes I have had very little back pain and not had to visit the osteopath at all. My back can still be stiff, especially after a rigorous gardening session, but after a class of stretching and exercising it loosens up. Lynn always listens to you with regards to any aches or pains and will modify your exercises to allow for any problems. She is certainly highly recommended by me.
